Camp NaNoWriMo

I've attempted NaNoWriMo in the past, and was about to try again this November, but tonight I saw someone on Facebook mention this opportunity ... so I immediately signed up! I've recently gotten some inspiration to start writing again, so I'm even more excited for tomorrow than I was before!

Is anyone else doing Camp NaNoWriMo, July 2017?

5 Books, 1 Week

I'm starting my first reading challenge tomorrow! It's hosted by two very lovely people on Instagram (@mellisarock and @pri_bibliophile), and I think it'll be a great way to really kick off my summer reading. I've had my 5 books picked out since mid-June, but you'll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out what they are! As well as posting on Instagram (@121books), I will post some progress reports on here.

TAG: Your Bookish Identity

I didn't expect to do two tags in two days, but I was tagged by Myrth to do the Your Bookish Identity book tag. This seemed like another great way for everyone to get to know me, so I'm very excited to do this one!

What dystopian/fantastical world would you live in?

Given that my favourite series is The Selection series, I have to say Illéa. It kind of works out nicely too because Illéa is a dystopian version of North America, and I'm from Canada! So, taking the question one step further, I would say I'd be living in the Province of Columbia, hopefully living as a Three.

Who would your partner be?

Definitely Maxon Schreave! ... I'm assuming this question means love interest, right? Either way, Maxon is my favourite! If I could find someone in real life who is as kind and considerate and patient, I would marry them in a heartbeat.

Who would be your godly mother/father? {Percy Jackson}

I had to really think about this, because my initial instinct was to say Poseidon ... but that would mean I'd be related to Percy, and that doesn't sit well with me. Although Poseidon is my favourite god, and Artemis is my favourite goddess (but she's one of the three virgin goddesses), I'm going to say Athena is my godly mother. Yes, Athena is also a virgin goddess, but she has demigod children born from her thoughts (according to the series). Plus, then Annabeth and I would be sisters, and I love that idea!

Would you be a Downworlder or Nephilim? {Shadowhunter world}

I had to look this up because I haven't started the series yet -- it's on my list! But I did watch the movie, and with a quick internet search I quickly realized I would rather be a Nephilim, or Shadowhunter. My first name literally means 'pure', which goes with the whole angelic thing.

Which house would you be in? {Harry Potter}

Ravenclaw, no question! Athena as my godly mother makes more sense now, doesn't it? I love to learn and I'm hoping to become a teacher, so I clearly value knowledge. And of the four colours, blue is my favourite, lol.

Which faction would you be in? {Divergent}

Knowing me, I'd probably end up a Divergent. Thank goodness I'm not in that world! While I admire Amity and Candor, I think I would be in Erudite. Again, the love of learning and not wanting to come across as ignorant.

What would be your dæemon? {Northern Lights}

I had to find a quiz for this one, because I'd never even heard of the series. I found a Buzzfeed quiz and my result is Osprey. "You're not afraid to say what you mean, or speak up when you see injustice. You have a healthy distaste for authority and you're committed to doing what's right even if it's not in your best interests." ... The part about authority doesn't seem like me, but I would hope that the rest is right.

As with my last tag post, I choose to tag whoever reads this who wants to do this ... consider yourself tagged!

TAG: Would You Rather?

Welcome to my first tag post! I may do more of these in the future, but I'm hoping to start a BookTube channel before the end of the year, so I'd rather save the book tags for video ideas. However, this tag seems like the perfect way for everyone to get to know me. And before I start, I just want to say that because no one tagged me (but I wanted to do it anyways), I choose to tag anyone who reads this and wants to do it! I hope you all enjoy!

WOULD YOU RATHER ...

... Read only trilogies or stand-alones?

Even though my favourite book (The Siren) is a stand-alone, I have to go with trilogies. I don't like things to end!

... Read only female or male authors?

Why not both (or rather, all) genders? But if I have to pick one, I will choose female authors. There are some male authors I enjoy (Rick Riordan), but I think the majority of the books I read or want to read are by females.

... Shop at Chapters or Amazon?

I'm not a huge online shopping person, and I can't help but love the service at Chapters. So it's a no-brainer, Chapters!

(Note: The original question uses Barnes & Noble, but because Chapters is the Canadian equivalent to B&N and I'm Canadian, I thought it'd be okay.)

... All books become movies or television shows?

This is definitely a hard one! I'm not sure if I'm just biased because I do enjoy movies, but I'm also saying movies because I feel television shows will take more liberties.

... Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

As much as it's going to kill my social life (lol, what social life?), I'm going to say 5 books per week. 5 pages per day would be torture!

... Be a professional reviewer or author?

Author, definitely! It's been my dream to publish a novel! The goal right now though is to simply finish writing a full book.

... Only read your top 20 favourite books over and over, or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

It pains me to give up my favourite books, but I supposed I could simply just remember the details and they will live on inside my heart forever. That way I can enjoy them, but still enjoy new ones as well.

... Be a librarian or book seller?

I've worked in a library, and it's no joke. I think I'd much rather have a store that sells books and bookish items. It'd be so fun! (Probably also a lot of work, but I mean, pros and cons.)

... Only read your favourite genre or every genre except your favourite?

Only read my favourite genre, for sure. (Sorry other genres!)

... Only read physical books or ebooks?

Okay, when I said the other question was a hard one, I lied. This is the hardest one! eBooks can be so much cheaper, but it's just really satisfying owning a physical copy of a book. Umm, umm, umm, physical books!

Bookish Confessions

1. As a young child, my favourite book was Which Witch is Which? by Pat Hutchins. I took that one out of the library so many times!

2. I was in a book-related competition, two years in a row (Grade 3 and Grade 4), and even after graduating high school and university, I would still say this is my proudest accomplishment in life.

3. I haven't read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ... that'll change this summer, I promise!

4. I'm scared to read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but I'm not 100% sure why. My mom bought a copy and gave it to me after she read it, but I gave it to my grandmother for her birthday because she wanted it more.

5. I'm ashamed that I've watched way too many movies before reading the books. (Sorry!) I used to read so much as a kid, and then I went through a movie-buff stage, and now I'm getting back into reading.

6. The only series I can think of where I actually read all the books before watching the movies is the Twilight series. (I haven't watched the last film though.)

7. When I'm looking for books to read, either the title or the cover has to appeal to me before I consider reading the synopsis. Then I feel like a snob because of that saying, "You can't judge a book by its cover."

8. Sometimes I wonder if I only ship characters because they're canon. I've begun to see a pattern in my ships lately ...

9. I want to read more classic novels, but I just think back to high school where I couldn't understand 1984 until my teacher explained it. I've been reading Pride and Prejudice, but I know how the story goes from watching the movie and reading the manga first.

10. My biggest dream in life is to publish a novel one day. Well, my goal is to just finish writing a novel first, THEN I can think about publishing it.
